Purpose Responsible for custodial cleaning work in a building or buildings. Usually works in a large assigned area with frequent group work and/or special assignments in addition to the assigned area. Maintains curb appeal of public circulation space and restrooms. Keeps premises of academic buildings in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.
Responsibilities General Cleaning: Quality – work according to established procedures using prescribed equipment
Quantity – maintain work schedule as assigned
Willingly accept work assignments
Overtime – before and after shift, weekend, holiday, and emergency response
Abides by the Work Rules: Abide by the work rules as described in employee orientations and applicable policies and procedures
Professional appearance and demeanor – follows uniform policy
Dependable, reports to work on time
Cooperative, works effectively with others and independently
Readily accepts work assignments and supervision
Has not received formal discipline within the evaluation period
Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of job tasks or training subjects
Attends training as scheduled
Follow training guidelines as instructed
Safety: Have no lost time injuries due to unsafe work practices or failure to follow procedures
Regularly use PPE, safety shoes and safety equipment
Perform all tasks within established safety guidelines as instructed.
Report unsafe conditions in a timely manner
Maintain valid driver’s license
Maintain acceptable UT driver’s rating
Safely operate UT vehicles
Security: Secure buildings and rooms on schedule and/or after cleaning as appropriate
Follow correct unlocking, locking and alarm procedures as instructed
Follow key control/access card procedures and guidelines
Carry UT ID at all times during work hours
Perform Work Orders: Provide on-duty cleaning and event support. Perform set up of table linens and other items for special events. Respond to Emergencies: Clean up after emergencies such as floods. Perform Overtime: Mandatory overtime may be required with little or no advance notice. Substitute: Fills in for absent co-workers as requested. Service Vehicles: Wash and vacuum or sweep out vehicles. Apply wax and protectant to vehicles. Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Six months of experience in custodial maintenance work.
Preferred Qualifications High school graduation or GED.
More than one year custodial experience.
Driving Required This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
