UTPD includes an investigative division, K-9 teams, bicycle patrol team and its own 911 Dispatch Center. Purpose To attend and successfully complete the University of Texas System Police Academy and pass the Texas license exam for peace officer. Responsibilities Attend classes and maintain comprehensive notes. Actively participate in classroom discussions and group projects. Comply with established rules and regulations governing The University of Texas System Police Academy. Comply with assignments and instructions given by the Director of Police, The University of Texas System or by any member of the Academy staff. Comply with policies and respective component institution police departments relating to their status and attendance at the Academy. Adhere to rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Regent's of The University of Texas System. Perform related duties as required. Participate in the physical and defensive tactics training program. Participate in firearms training. Participate in practical problem scenarios. Other related functions as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. U.S Citizen. Age 21 on commission date. Meet UT System requirements for Police Officer. Criminal history must not contain any felonies or misdemeanors above a class C within the last 10 years. Stable work history. Communicate clearly orally and in writing and provide creditable testimony in a court of law. Must pass an oral board, written and physical testing and a thorough background investigation. Acceptable driving record and be eligible to operate a UT owned vehicle. Ability to complete and review forms in detail with accuracy and in a timely manner. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience working in a higher education or equivalent environment. Experience with communication equipment. Bilingual. Driving Required This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Salary Range Cadet $52,500  First Year Officer $68,626 (upon graduation from police academy) Working Conditions Environmental Demands: Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished) May work in all weather conditions May work in extreme temperatures May work around chemical fumes May work around standard office conditions May work around biohazards May work around chemicals May work around electrical and mechanical hazards Physical Tasks: Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity Climbing of stairs Climbing of ladders Lifting and moving Work Shift Mandatory overtime, various shifts, weekends, and holidays.
