General Notes Join the Facilities Operations and Maintenance team, a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community.
Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University’s operations.
Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university’s operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower.

Security sensitive; Criminal background check conducted on selected applicant. Hiring decision is contingent on applicant clearing check. This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215. Applications will be reviewed online by the hiring department. This is a 40 hour work week; five 8-hour days, or possible four 10-hour days with schedule to be discussed with supervisor.
Purpose To perform journey level work in maintaining, repairing and installing plumbing systems that transport water, steam, natural and laboratory gasses, sewer, storm and drain water, chilled water, vacuum systems and related equipment and distribution systems.
Responsibilities Inspects, maintains, repairs, modifies, installs, and replaces building, laboratory, and other miscellaneous plumbing systems. Uses common piping materials such as copper, brass, black steel pipe, galvanized iron, cast iron, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, etc.
Locates and repairs leaks in common and specialty piping systems conveying various fluids and gases, including but not limited to domestic water, reclaimed water, wastewater, steam, laboratory gases, natural gas, and refrigerants. Various pipe sizes to 10 inches in diameter and pressures ranging up to 150 pounds per square inch.
Performs preventive maintenance on building, laboratory and specialty plumbing systems and system components including pumps and controls. Utilizes instruments such as ultrasonic, temperature sensing, pressure and flow gauges. Includes working on electronic and pneumatic actuated valves, as well as replacing backflow prevention assemblies, and safety eye washes and showers.
Clears drain blockages. Removes and replaces lavatory fixtures.
Assists other technicians as needed in the accomplishment of shop goals related to key performance indicators. Participates in the On-Call program.
Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors up-to-date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise, and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met.
Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
Reads blueprints, works from specifications, and follows instructions, both written and oral.
Required Qualifications High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience as a journey level plumber. Licensed as a Journey Level Plumber from the State of Texas Board of Plumbing Examiners or able to achieve this level of licensure within 180 days. License must
