Purpose Provide basic grounds maintenance services to keep up the health and appearance of the landscape at The University of Texas at Austin.
Responsibilities Maintains landscape to University standards (including all turf, shrubs, and hardscapes) and reports trouble conditions on campus that might be a safety hazard to the University community. Driving University-owned vehicles to job sites will be required for this and most functions.
Safely operates landscaping equipment including push mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, and other hand tools used in landscape work.
Picks up litter, empties trash receptacles, and keeps University property neat and orderly.
Readily accepts and follows written and oral instructions, maintains work schedule set by the supervisor, and completes routine paperwork to include weekly electronic time reports, daily labor reports, vehicle usage log, and other UT-related electronic forms.
Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for the task, follows safety rules, and maintains safe working conditions.
Cleans, maintains and operates University vehicles. Maintains acceptable driver rating as established in Policy UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
Adheres to and performs related functions as assigned, and works overtime in support of special events, emergencies, and planned after-hours work. Ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Experience following basic work instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, office staff, and university community. Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently. Demonstrates stable work history and work ethic. Experience with basic computer operations to complete data entry and/or electronic forms. Ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs. Capable of working in all types of adverse conditions (environmental, weather, dust, loud noises, heights, fumes, smoke, air pollution, allergens, etc.). Class C driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days after entering the state. Candidate's motor vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 36 months must be clear. This includes all states resided in for past 36 months. Candidate must provide out-of-state MVR.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications One year of experience in landscape maintenance work in a university, institutional, or commercial setting to include operating power mowers, cultivators, edgers, small sweepers, and other equipment used in gardening work plus the required qualifications.
Driving Required This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary Range $37,440 + depending on qualifications
