Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general-purpose humanoid. Our humanoid is designed for corporate tasks targeting labor shortages and jobs that are undesirable or unsafe. We are based in San Jose, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration.
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern for Fall 2026 to support the design, build, and testing of prototype hardware across our integration and test teams. This internship is designed for students in their final year of an undergraduate or master’s program, as well as recent graduates who are on track to complete their degree by the end of 2026, or the following year.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and test prototype mechanical fixtures to validate robot hardware
Develop drivelines and test stands for actuator integration and validation
Support electromechanical integration with components such as sensors and motors
Generate accurate 2D drawings using GD&T per ASME Y14.5 to ensure tight tolerances and proper fits
Collaborate with mechanical engineering and systems integration teams on hands-on testing
Requirements
Portfolio or website showcasing relevant projects and your role
Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field, with at least two years completed by the start of the internship
Experience with 3D CAD software for designing complex geometry
Background in designing, building, and testing mechanical prototypes
Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with hardware projects
Ability to write and maintain clean documentation throughout the design process
Passion for robotics and hardware development
Bonus Qualifications
Experience with CATIA V6
Familiarity with manufacturing processes and first article inspection
Exposure to sensors, motors, or electromechanical systems
Experience with FEA, simulation tools, or basic programming (Python, MATLAB)
