About the Role: The  Special Projects Group  of KPFF is growing and looking for an ambitious and initiative-driven  Design-Build Deputy Design Manager  to strengthen our dynamic team in  Seattle or Tacoma, WA . You will be working on a diverse range of complex fish passage, roadway and transportation improvements on design-build projects. As a key member of our team, you'll use your existing expertise in design build, but also dive deep into the realms of project management and delivering unparalleled client service. What You’ll Be Doing: Design Build and Development: Support the Design Manager to coordinate with all complimentary disciplines (roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, public involvement and environmental), technical preparation and supervision of roadway and transit design tasks including quality reviews. Support the management of the project, scope, schedule, design, and quality. Review plans, prepare or review technical specifications, contract documents and estimates. Lead, develop and review post design construction related tasks including; NDCs, FDCs, RFIs, PCO’s and manage design risk through construction. Assure the project team complies with the contract agreement as well as exercises rigid cost control to implement the approved design within established budget restraints Learn to assess risks and develop mitigation strategies to contribute to project success. Enhance your skills in identifying and overcoming challenges through innovative problem-solving approaches, utilizing both traditional and modern engineering techniques. Project Leadership: Managing design build project tasks, ensuring efficient coordination of timelines, budgets, and resources to achieve successful project outcomes. Conduct site visits and inspections as necessary to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards. Mentor team members to support their professional growth and development. Client Engagement and Exceptional Service: Foster strong client relationships by actively listening to client needs, providing clear communication, and delivering customized solutions that align with their objectives. Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering expert guidance and proactive support throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.  Who We’re Looking For: Minimum of 8 year of of civil design and management experience with a PE in the State of Washington or ability to get reciprocity 5+ Years of experience on large Department of Transportation (DOT) projects Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proven capability to work dynamically and effectively in a collaborative environment. Demonstrated enthusiasm for developing design and project management skills. Commitment to delivering exceptional client service and exceeding expectations. Preferred Qualifications: Strong knowledge of construction means, methods and techniques Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Plans and Standard Specifications and Design Manual Experiencing delivering alternative project delivery procurements for WSDOT, Sound Transit or other similar agencies. Experience working with contractors who are active in the Puget Sound Region. DBIA Professional Physical Demands and Work Environment: Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table. Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs. Occasionally visiting project locations and performing field inspections which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
