Salary to be commensurate with experience
The hiring range for an Engineer I: $72,638 - $90,798/year
The hiring range for an Engineer II: $79,902 - $99,877/year
The hiring range for a Project Engineer: $87,266 - $109,083/year

Aurora Water – Planning and Engineering Division
The Aurora Water Planning and Engineering drainage staff utilize their knowledge and abilities obtained through college education and municipal, governmental or private experience to enhance the safety of our community by reviewing, approving, and coordinating drainage documents. Our team works closely with Mile High Flood District, the development community, and other City departments to ensure our residents, businesses and their properties are protected.
THE POSITION:
This posting is for a Drainage Engineer role, with a primary focus of preliminary drainage and civil plan drainage review. A successful candidate for this position could be brought on as either an Engineer I, Engineer II or Project Engineer I, depending on the candidate’s skills and experience.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews master drainage reports, preliminary drainage reports (site plans), and final drainage design (civil plans) for conformance to annexation agreements, city code ordinance, and specification manuals
Actively coordinates projects with the City’s Floodplain Administrator and Drainage Planning staff and may participate in basin-wide planning efforts including MDPs, OSPs, FHADs, etc.
Participates or leads criteria evaluation and updates
Review drainage studies for conformance to hydrology, hydraulic and Mile High Flood District criteria
Meets and coordinates with other departments, consultants, and government agencies
Reviews construction drawings for conformance to city code, specifications and city drainage standards
May act as a team leader for other engineers, technicians, and other support personnel
Provides technical expertise to other departments and divisions
Responds to requests from City staff and members of City Council
Performs other duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Education:
Bachelor of Engineering Degree form ABET accredited program
Experience:
For Engineer I: No experience required
For Engineer II: Required: Two (2) years of construction development, performing engineering calculations, reviewing design criteria and performing project (or task) management.
For Project Engineer I: Required: Minimum of four (4) years of reviewing design/construction drawings, performing engineering calculations, reviewing design criteria and performing project (or task) management.
Licenses or Certificates Required:
For Engineer II: Engineer in Training/Engineering Intern license
For Project Engineer I: Required: Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) with the State of Colorado or ability to obtain through reciprocity from another state within 6 months of employment for the Project Engineer classification. Preferred: Colorado Certified Floodplain Manager Certificate
Colorado (or other State) driver's license with a good driving history
Knowledge:
Basic or intermediate knowledge of engineering drawings, calculations, specifications and project management, contract administration and procurement rules, plan review processes, department policies and procedures
Introductory or intermediate interaction with outside agencies and jurisdictions
