What We Can Achieve Together:
The Rattlesnake Creek Project Manager (Project Manager) manages and advances conservation programs, plans and methods for the Rattlesnake Creek Watershed, located in South Central Kansas. Through partnerships with key stakeholders, you will deploy programs designed to implement water savings across the watershed through irrigation technology adoption, precision fallowing and other conservation practices.
This is a fixed-term, three-year position. The Rattlesnake Creek Project Manager will report to the Freshwater Program Manager within the Kansas business unit. The position is primarily remote in Kansas , with the option to use office facilities at a nearby TNC office location as needed. The incumbent must reside within the Rattlesnake Creek watershed ( St. John, Stafford, Hutchinson, Great Bend or surrounding communities ) or within reasonable commuting distance. The incumbent will be expected to work regularly in the watershed.
We’re Looking for You:
The (Project Manager) provides technical leadership and support to the Rattlesnake Creek watershed by planning, directing and implementing irrigation technologies and land stewardship on private agricultural lands. They address water infrastructure, irrigation technologies and innovative farming techniques, foster cross-site learning among a multi-disciplinary group of stakeholders and supply conservation coordination with site or landscape level information relevant to the planning process. They develop and implement conservation strategies, employ a full range of conservation tools to acquire varying degrees of water savings and implement a variety of strategies to continue public and private support for TNC conservation priorities in the region. They coordinate supply chain support with commodity markets and researchers alike, collaborating with TNC’s Corporate Engagement team to implement grant deliverables: Prescription fallowing, temporary water rights retirement, and irrigation technology assistance. Additionally, the incumbent will work on expanding phreatophyte removal efforts throughout the watershed with partner organizations and agencies.
What You’ll Bring:
BA/BS, agriculture, biology, agronomy or related degree and 5 years’ experience in natural resource management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with agricultural entities.
Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
Experience using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Web Browsers.
Experience with principles of land acquisition.
Experience negotiating complex agreements.
Desired Qualifications: Experience with crop irrigation in semi-arid environments.
Knowledge of land management conservation practice and conservation science.
Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation.
Ability and willingness to apply science to decision-making and guide activities in Rattlesnake Creek.
Knowledge of federal, state and local policies and regulations related to agriculture.
Experience working with commodity markets.
Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

Salary Information:
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $62,000 - $72,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
