We are seeking a dedicated, full-time Advanced Practice Provider (APP), which includes both Nurse Practitioners (NP) and Physician Assistants (PA-C), to join our Pediatric Cardiac Surgery team as a First Assist. The primary duties of this role are centered in the Operating Room (OR), assisting in complex pediatric cardiovascular surgery cases 2 to 3 days per week. This position also includes required night and weekend on-call rotations. Beyond the OR, you will provide direct care and assume primary responsibility for the clinical management of patients across ambulatory, emergency department, and inpatient settings. Key Responsibilities Operating Room & Clinical Management Surgical First Assisting: Act as the primary surgical first assist in pediatric cardiovascular surgery cases 2–3 days a week. Patient Assessment: Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform detailed physical examinations. Continuum of Care: Manage patients across all care settings, including the OR, inpatient floors, emergency department, and outpatient clinics. Diagnostic & Treatment Plans: Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests; prescribe appropriate medications; and develop evidence-based treatment plans. Case Management: Direct and participate in comprehensive case management and continuity of care for our vulnerable pediatric patient population. Collaboration & Quality Improvement Interdisciplinary Teamwork: Collaborate, refer, and consult with department attending physicians, specialists, and multidisciplinary healthcare team members to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality care. Quality & Safety: Actively contribute to organizational and departmental continuous performance and quality improvement projects. Education & Research: Participate in clinical research efforts and provide vital education to patients, families, and fellow healthcare team members. Schedule & Call Expectations Shift: Full-time. OR Days: 2 to 3 days per week dedicated to surgical assisting. On-Call: Participation in a rotating night and weekend on-call schedule is required. Learn more about our Heart Center at: https://www.seattlechildrens.org/clinics/heart/ Required Education and Experience: Master's degree in nursing with a concentration in a pediatric or family nurse practitioner program OR graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program. One year work experience in a pediatric or family focused clinical area. Required Credentials: For Nurse Practitioners: Active, unencumbered registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington. Current national certification as a pediatric or family nurse practitioner For Physician Assistants: Active, unencumbered physician assistant licensure in the State of Washington Initial certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants For All Providers: Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals is required at time of hire and to be maintained continuously throughout employment. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will also be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Professionals. Some clinical locations may require American Heart Association Pediatric Life Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider at Seattle Children's Hospital must be secured prior to time of hire and must be maintained in good standing and in compliance with all medical staff bylaws, continuously throughout employment. Preferred: Two years experience in advanced practice provider role Two years experience in pediatric health care Compensation Range $137,321 - $201,961 per year $10,000 annual stipend for First Assist duties This position is eligible for relocation for qualified candidates. Salary Information This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
