Overview GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Manager, UMass Cancer Walk & Community Fundraising, the Advancement Specialist, Cancer Walk and Community Fundraising works with individuals and organizations in the community raising funds to advance the mission of UMass Chan Medical School (UMass Chan). The Advancement Specialist will utilize writing, computer, marketing, and public relations skills in these various assignments. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Oversee and manage the fundraising activities of community supporters Encourage, motivate and  support community partners  to maximize the funds they raise for UMass Chan Cultivate  new supporters while maintaining and developing relationships with existing community partners Guide fundraisers in  setting up  and designing personalized  fundraising pages across online platforms Promote  community events through  internal and external communication channels including website, email and social media Monitor and report on program performance including number of events, gross and net proceeds, expenses and UMass Chan department beneficiaries Assess  progress toward goals and adjust  strategies and action plans  as needed to ensure continued success Coordinate stewardship efforts  such as acknowledgments, publications, donor recognition  items and special events as needed Provide leadership and oversight in the planning, , execution and evaluation of fundraising initiatives  and events Support the walk manager in  identifying, cultivating and stewarding   prospective and existing donors Solicit and secure gift-in-kind sponsors, including food, water, and survivor gifts for walk event In collaboration with the manager, develop detailed action plans and timelines ensuring projects remain on schedule and within budget Recruit, coordinate and manage volunteers  to support walk events,  and related community activities. Contribute to  proposal development and grant submissions as appropriate Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience Possess a high degree of self-confidence & enthusiasm and ability to engage with all levels of stakeholders Strong oral and written and interpersonal communication skills Works well independently and as member of a team Detail oriented with a high level of follow through Self-starter who needs minimal direct oversight and has strong organizational skills Demonstrated skills in creating marketing materials for website, corporate newsletters, events or fundraising campaigns Excellent PC skills with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; experience with online fundraising platforms preferred Volunteer fundraising experience highly desirable Ability to travel to off-site locations Additional Information Perform other duties as assigned
