Job Description: POSITION DETAILS Department: Expanded Learning Programs (EXL) Reports To: EXL Program Coordinator Employment Type: Part-Time / Non-Exempt Work Location: School-Based Program Site(s) Benefits: Pay rate: $23.50 an hour, based on regional grant funding and experience   Hours negotiated upon hiring (22 per week, depending on location and need) Up to 15 paid holidays per year Stepping stone into a career in education, leadership, advocacy, social entrepreneurship, and social justice Employee assistance program, dental, vision, wellness program, life insurance, flexible spending account, transit and parking flexible spending accounts for commuting expenses, 403b (Eligibility based on total weekly hours) People-Centered Service & Care BACR Value: Compassion — genuine care for youth, families, and colleagues Key Responsibilities Build trusting relationships and a sense of belonging through consistent connection and proactive support for students who are disengaged or struggling. Support students’ social-emotional learning (SEL) through relationship-building, restorative practices, de-escalation, and co-regulation strategies. Address conflict, bullying, exclusion, and behavioral concerns using culturally responsive, restorative approaches. Recognize when students need support beyond the program’s capacity and communicate concerns to the coordinator. Build respectful, professional relationships with families and caregivers while maintaining confidentiality and recognizing them as key partners in student success. Continuous Learning & Improvement BACR Value: Curiosity — actively seeks to learn, grow, and improve practice Key Responsibilities Participate in training, coaching, staff meetings, and professional development, applying feedback to improve practice. Use student engagement and behavior data to refine lessons and improve outcomes. Engage in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) processes outlined in the EXL Handbook. Provide homework support and skill-building activities, adapting instruction to meet students’ needs. Use required digital platforms and communication tools (Workday, Workvivo, Google Drive, email) effectively and independently. Foster an equitable and inclusive environment through respectful communication, cultural responsiveness, and awareness of personal and systemic biases. Demonstrate self-awareness by acknowledging mistakes, seeking support when needed, and responding constructively to challenges. Maintain accurate attendance, incident reports, and required documentation. Maintain professional boundaries and ethical conduct in all interactions with youth. Notify the coordinator immediately of safety incidents, behavioral concerns, or mandated reporting situations. Communicate program, team, or student concerns before issues escalate. Handle sensitive student and family information with discretion and confidentiality. Attend all required professional development sessions and participate fully. Represent BACR professionally in appearance, communication, and conduct at program sites. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Required Associate degree or higher, or 48 college units, or passage of the Instructional Aide exam. Successful completion of a criminal background check and TB clearance. Ability to work during after-school hours and commit through the academic school year (hire date through mid-June). Experience working with K–12 youth in educational, enrichment, or community-based settings. Ability to build positive relationships with youth from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Ability to complete Mandated Reporter certification and other required trainings. Ability to independently supervise and engage up to 22 youth. Basic proficiency with email, Google Drive, and other program management platforms. Preferred Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish, English/Chinese, or other languages). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to stand, sit, kneel, and move throughout the program space for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Ability to actively supervise and accompany students during indoor and outdoor activities.
