Overview
Founded in 2005, Aggie Blue Bikes (ABB) is a community oriented bicycle rental and repair shop aimed at making sustainable transportation more accessible. The Bicycle Mechanics of ABB are the lifeblood of the shop. Trained mechanics teach customers how to repair bicycles in a non-elitist and welcoming atmosphere, ready to assist anyone regardless of skill level. Mechanics also administer the ABB rental program, which is free for students. Successful mechanics are friendly, enthusiastic, motivated to become part of the culture at ABB, open-minded, and most importantly they are quick learners. Experience with bicycle maintenance is preferred, but not required; lack of experience should be substituted with a tenacity and desire to learn.
Responsibilities
Interacting with customers in a welcoming shop environment and at outreach events
Provide excellent customer service in a friendly and informative way to a diverse clientele
Ensure efficient, thorough, and safe preparation of bicycles for checkout and walk customers through the check out process
Teach customers how to do repairs on their personal bikes
Maintain positive interactions with customers and visitors at outreach events both on campus and in the wider community
Work with Shop Manager and Program Coordinator to achieve goals
Maintaining and repairing Aggie Blue Bikes and donated bikes
Complete repairs according to Aggie Blue Bike standards on fleet of 250 rental bicycles to maintain inventory for customers
Reach bike tune up goals based on experience
Salvage bike parts from donated bikes for future use
Performing shop operations
Maintain a clean and organized shop space
Follow shop opening and closing procedures
Accurately assist customers with rental paperwork and procedures
Answer shop phone in a professional manner
Complete sales transactions according to university cash handling policies and procedures
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Year-round availability, including summer months (required)
Demonstrated interest in community service and building community
Experience with and passion for sustainable transportation (e.g. bicycle commuting)
Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills and ask questions
Demonstrated experience accepting constructive feedback and adjusting behavior
Demonstrated ability to be productive while working alone or with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
Bicycle maintenance experience preferred, but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Comfortable working with a diverse population of clientele who frequent ABB
Mechanically minded, willing and able to work with your hands, get dirty and work with hand and power tools
Creative problem solver
Initiator, actively bring new ideas to the table
Display honesty, trust, and empathy toward users and other employees

This position requires moderate physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting. This position requires nearly continuous standing, repetitive hand motions, and reaching overhead. Employees may be exposed to unusual elements including extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
