Job Posting Title: Building Monitor ---- Hiring Department: Marine Science Institute ---- Position Open To: All Applicants ---- Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40 ---- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt from FLSA ---- Earliest Start Date: Immediately ---- Position Duration: Expected to Continue ---- Location: PORT ARANSAS, TX ---- Job Details: General Notes The purpose of this role is to support threat management and emergency response, and to provide the first point of contact for guests. The position required a high degree of customer service for executives, guests, and staff as well as experience managing projects, working in a small team environment, and sensitivity with confidential information and secured spaces. This role is located in Port Aransas, Texas Responsibilities Serve as a security guard presence as needed, conducting foot and vehicle patrols, monitoring checkpoints, and securing buildings, gates, and restricted areas. Coordinate closely and regularly with the Facility Supervisor on daily operations, incident response, and security procedures. Act as the first point of contact, delivering professional customer service to employees, visitors, VIPs, and during special events. Monitor and control access points, including screening visitors, managing pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and maintaining access control systems. Respond to emergencies independently or as part of a team, supporting incident management and ensuring proper reporting. Maintain security systems and equipment, including CCTV, surveillance systems, radios, and safety/fire protection equipment inspections for proper operation. Complete required documentation and administrative tasks, including reports, staff scheduling, guard tour logs, and adherence to SOPs and university policies. Required Qualifications High school diploma 2 years of experience in a security technical support Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Associate's degree Certificate in Criminal Justice Driving Required This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing). Salary Range $36,500 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment. Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25/50/80 pounds regularly/occasionally Must be able to respond quickly to suspicious sounds. Must be able to see and respond to emergency situations. Must be able to safely climb ladders while carrying up to 40 pounds Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain. Exposure to variable weather conditions including but not limited to: rain, cold , and extreme heat. Work Shift Shift work as required with advance notice, with varying days off, occasional weekends, and overtime.
