Accountable for infrastructure tool and/or service designs within one or more technical domains that enable business strategies in accordance with architectural governance, standards and policies. Facilitates deployment of tools and/or services by leading other Infrastructure engineers in solution development, in addition to the development and maintenance of templates, playbooks and automation to be used during implementation. Demonstrates a high level of technical expertise within one or more technical domains. Demonstrates the ability to decompose issues or objectives into units of work that can be assigned to other team members. They advocate and advance more efficient solution delivery practices and evangelize great design, engineering and organizational practices.
Job Summary:
RCDD Cable Design Engineer will provide design and engineering activities for all structured cabling, technology room/raised floor areas, backbone/riser and lateral distribution systems. Direct areas of responsibilities include estimates and scope development, designs, standards, design and bid documents, bid analysis, develop, and administer RFPs, field surveys and validation of as-built drawings. Should possess knowledge and understanding of building codes and regulations, participate in project close-out support. The RCDD will play a part in project implementation and validation services in terms of cable infrastructure support for all infrastructure technologies, services, and projects. Baseline knowledge of Wide Area Networking, Data and IP Networks and Voice is a plus. This role is part of a global solutions and service delivery organization. This position will interface directly with internal and external customers/suppliers; Global Network and engineering, product/project management, data center, storage, Real Estate, and operations teams. Strong written, verbal and presentation skills are a must. The candidate must be able to work on their own and in team settings in various sizes and locations. The RCDD Cable Design Engineer is considered a subject matter expert in their field and is expected to stay current with various technologies, maintain industry certifications, support organizational goals and industry trends to drive value.
Key Responsibilities:
Candidate must have solid and demonstrated experience in developing strategies and solutions aligned to business requirements that utilize department’s standards, product sets, templates, systems, and artifacts
Create and communicate structured cabling standards to partners, stakeholders, and lines of business
Participate in project-related interviews and discovery with lines of business and other technology design team members
Translate business requirements into functional technology requirements
Ability to liaise with 3rd parties and provide representation in developing optimum solutions and ratifying designs
Interfaces with GC, MEP Engineering and Architectural firms
Oversee Communications Construction Management (CCM), cabling contractor activities, providing direction to address site-specific construction issues
Participate in all aspects of the infrastructure acceptance process
Provide support to technology project managers during adoption of the new infrastructure
Must provide quality assurance throughout the entire, end to end project lifecycle
Is responsible for the quality of the service outputs of his/her work
The ability to assemble professional documents based on existing templates, ability to provide accurate job descriptions with needed hours for completion. Must create budgets and estimates. Must understand project delivery lifecycle management, the concept of a Detailed Design, Test and Certification methodologies, Risk Assessment/Mitigation and Validation plans and procedures
Must maintain and adhere to department polices in conjunction with the service delivery function (asset tracking, inventories, chargeback, documentation and the related systems, tools and processes)
Candidate should have experience operating with colleagues across different time zones with a flexible approach to working hours (ability to work varied hours and weekends a must) in order to successfully interact and communicate on a global level
Must be able to participate in, establish technical testing criteria to industry bets practices
Required Skills:
A minimum of 15 years’ experience creating structured cabling solutions, designs and standards in a data center environment, with commercial infrastructure experience desirable (tenant fit-out)
Strong background in IT service delivery role (i.e., engineering support for projects)
Varied experience in multi-vendor solutions (various infrastructure systems and manufacturers, primarily Corning and CommScope)
Participated in design and/or implementation of major IT projects
Experience in hierarchical networ
