Description of Work
The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC), Support Services, Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) is seeking an energetic, skilled, and collaborative Regional Maintenance Carpenter (Carpenter II) to join our Coastal Region Maintenance Team.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate journeyman-level carpentry experience and proficiency in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of general building systems. This role requires the ability to work independently, effectively interpret blueprints, operate construction equipment, and perform a wide range of assigned tasks.
Key Duties:
•Perform journeyman-level carpentry work in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of building structures and systems.
•Read, interpret, and apply information from blueprints, technical drawings, and project plans.
•Operate and maintain construction tools and equipment safely and effectively.
•Independently manage work assignments received from a supervisor and ensure timely completion.
•Assist with additional maintenance and repair tasks as assigned to support regional operations.
Work Location and Schedule
This position requires the daily commute to Coastal Region Maintenance Yard in Greenville, NC. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The work schedule is Monday – Friday and may require some weekend work and overnight travel to meet the demands of the organization.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade Range: $39,244.00-$68,679.00
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required . Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
Demonstrated experience with the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used within the carpentry trade relating to the construction and/or maintenance of buildings.
Demonstrated experience with reading schematics and blueprints.
Demonstrated experience executing Critical Path Method (CPM) construction schedules for new construction, renovation, and/or major maintenance projects.
Demonstrated experience with reading/interpreting construction plans and documents.
Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA standards, State Construction Office guidelines, North Carolina Building Codes, AND/OR laws and ordinances governing institutional / industrial / commercial construction.

Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) operates as the NCDAC Capital Project Coordinator (CPC) and is tasked with coordinating all capital improvement and renovation and repair projects with the State Construction Office (SCO) and serves as the DAC representative on all matters involving the State Property Office and State Building Commission. Our unified purpose is to provide architectural and engineering support, sustainability, efficiency, and resiliency planning, construction, and maintenance services to ensure all statewide Institutions and Facilities remain in compliance with building codes, regulations, and legislative mandates, while also promoting the agency’s rehabilitation and reentry goals through offender job training within the construction and maintenance trades, while assisting institutions directly and indirectly with the installation and maintenance of kitchen, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and electronics equipment.
The Support Services Division oversees the operations and infrastructure that sustain facilities within the Department of Adult Correction. Responsibilities include facility maintenance, fleet and warehouse management, food services, construction and renovation projects, and energy efficiency. This division plays a vital role in supporting daily operations and long-term planning.
