The Cartage Coordinator supports the execution and continuous improvement of local pick‑up and delivery operations. This role focuses on day‑to‑day cartage performance, event management, service reliability, financial accuracy, and partner accountability. The position works closely with leadership, vendors, and warehouse teams to resolve exceptions, improve efficiency, and provide operational insight.
Knowledge:
Strong working knowledge of local cartage, pick‑up and delivery, and final‑mile operations
Understanding of event management, shipment milestones, and system connectivity impacts on visibility and service performance
Knowledge of cartage cost drivers, accessorial charges, and factors impacting true yield
Familiarity with operational reporting, KPI tracking, and trend analysis related to service and execution
Understanding of warehouse operations, including staging, loading, and freight flow coordination
Working knowledge of service failure management, root cause analysis, and corrective action principles
General knowledge of company policies, operational standards, and compliance requirements related to transportation and logistics
Functional understanding of transportation, logistics, and internal operating systems used to support cartage execution and reporting
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Execution & Visibility
Ensure all pickups and deliveries occur within established service expectations.
Monitor daily cartage execution and provide timely visibility into exceptions, delays, or service failures.
Perform root cause analysis and document corrective actions for recurring issues or service disruptions.
Ensure proper event management, including milestone accuracy and system connectivity where applicable.
Continuous Improvement & Efficiency
Identify and communicate opportunities to improve operational efficiency, including routing, truck utilization, tools, processes, and reporting.
Analyze cartage performance data and share insights, trends, and recommendations with leadership.
Support the development and maintenance of reports, scorecards, and performance tracking tools.
Financial Accuracy & Yield Awareness
Ensure accurate representation of operational activity to reflect true yield.
Work closely with leadership teams to validate data alignment between execution, billing, and reporting.
Support accessorial visibility, cost drivers, and exception rationale as needed.
Cartage Partner Accountability
Monitor performance of designated cartage partners against agreed service expectations.
Act as a primary operational contact for day‑to‑day execution issues, escalations, and follow‑up.
Track service failures, delays, and exception trends; support corrective actions with partners.
Collaboration & Cross‑Functional Alignment
Collaborate closely with Warehouse teams to support effective staging, loading, and freight flow.
Coordinate with internal teams to ensure smooth handoffs between warehouse, cartage, and customer‑facing teams.
Support alignment between operational execution and customer requirements.
Mentorship & Support
Provide coaching, guidance, and knowledge sharing to Cartage Coordinators.
Assist with complex shipments, escalations, or peak‑volume periods as needed.
Promote consistency, best practices, and process adherence through hands‑on support and example.
Customer & Stakeholder Support
Provide operational insight and execution support for customer‑specific cartage requirements.
Assist internal teams with cartage‑related questions, data requests, and service reviews as needed.
Compliance
Ensure adherence to company policies, operational standards, and regulatory requirements.
Support audit readiness through accurate documentation, exception tracking, and follow‑up.
Partner with Trade Compliance and other stakeholders to support compliance initiatives.
Systems & Tools
Use and support existing systems related to event management, reporting, and cartage execution.
Provide feedback and recommendations for system or process enhancements.
Assist with testing or rollout of operational improvements as requested.
