Commercial Paving & Grading Project Manager
Location: Rockville MD Job Type: Full-Time
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Paving & Grading Project Manager to lead and oversee sitework and paving projects including roadways, highways, and parking lots. This role is responsible for managing multiple crews and subcontractors while ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.
This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone with a strong background in grading, earthwork, and heavy civil construction who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day operations of grading, paving, and site development projects
Supervise multiple field crews and coordinate subcontractors across job sites
Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contracts
Monitor project progress, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards
Conduct regular site visits to evaluate safety, productivity, and workmanship
Manage project budgets, track costs, and support invoicing and billing processes
Review and process change orders, submittals, and RFIs
Coordinate materials, equipment, and labor to optimize efficiency
Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery
Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company standards
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)
5+ years of experience in grading, earthwork, or sitework construction
2+ years of experience in a Project Manager or leadership role
Strong background in commercial paving, roadwork, or heavy civil projects
Proven ability to manage multiple crews and subcontractors
Experience with project budgeting, scheduling, and cost control
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and contract documents
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred Experience
Experience with highways, road construction, parking lots, or large-scale site development
Background in mass grading and excavation operations
Familiarity with change order management and project documentation processes
