Job Description
Position Summary:
Works under the direct supervision of the Shift Leader with a dotted line reporting relationship to the department(s) for which support is provided . Provides diversified support of projects, tests, diagnoses, experiments and any other higher level electrical and/or programming support function . This position requires that qualified technicians be responsible for electrical design concepts, programming, cost analysis, troubleshooting, debugging and testing of new and existing production equipment . The Electrical Engineering Tech will also be expected to initiate and complete projects that replace obsolete equipment, reduce operation cost, increase efficiency and capability, improve quality and any other ideas that lead to continuous improvements of automated manufacturing equipment.
This position will include support for PLC, vision, motion control, digital displays, robot material handling systems and all other electrical control systems . Also provides electrical/electronic/mechanical production and project support including machine electrical control fabrication, troubleshooting and repairs for assigned product areas.
This job must be performed with diligence and attention to detail because of the significant safety and quality risks inherent to the position . This position will provide leadership through work direction, guidance and training to department personnel . Daily interaction is required with other departments, BD plants and vendors.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Will be responsible for maintaining equipment in the sterilization area. Responsibilities include project work, working with vendors, installation and onboarding of new equipment, upgrading existing equipment, and assisting in other areas, as needed.
Programming of any electrical control system.
Backup for other technicians where service and support is needed . May require working off shift.
Installation and integration of safety control equipment.
Maintains proper documentation for area(s) of responsibility.
Ensures that appropriate quality engineers/techs/auditors /operators are notified of programming/electronic changes that affect product or process quality.
Maintains and repairs electrical/electronic and optical equipment in the sterilization area . This includes troubleshooting, testing, adjusting and calibrating replaced parts, etc. in a manner that will facilitate a safe and effective repair.
Minimizes quality risks due to the electrical/electronic machinery/equipment including maintaining inspection systems.
Minimizes electrical safety risk by ensuring approved procedures are followed and standards are met.
Project work including layout, fabrication and programming.
Communicates and maintains a favorable rapport with team leaders, engineering, maintenance and production associates.
Works with minimal supervision.
Is on-call to support for downtime prevention and technical issues, as needed.
Uses computers to program PLC’s and interface with peripheral equipment.
Draws new control diagrams or changes existing drawings using Auto Cad.
Communicates daily events, projects, etc. to the maintenance team on the next shift .
Provides training to production personnel and/or other technicians.
Must be available during planned maintenance periods
Performs other duties as assigned by Team Leader and required to support the needs of the business.
Obey all company policies, standards and rules, including but not limited to: Safety policies and rules (including lockout procedures); Quality policies and rules
Must maintain regular, punctual attendance.
Additional Responsibilities:
Performs other duties as assigned by the Sr Engineer and required to support the needs of the business
Radiation Certification - Must be able to acquire in 6 months. This job is contingent on clearing an FBI background check. You will be required to provide fingerprints to be sent to the FBI The corporate security officer will determine if the background information will be acceptable for this position.
Education:
Associates Degree (Major: Electronics or equivalent ) , required
The degree requirement may be satisfied through demonstrated relevant experience or by active enrollment in the applicable degree program
Certificate of Completion from an advanced PLC training course, preferred
Experience:
2 + years’ experience with related industrial electronics , required
3+ years’ experience with industrial controls, required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required:
Knowledge of programming software for PLC’s, displays, servos and vision equipment.
Well developed technical writing skills.
Forklift – Must be able to obtain within 3 months.
Ability to learn robotic systems.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
Ability to think logically.
Ability to use electronic/electrical test equipment including VOM, clamp on ammeter, logic analyzer, oscilloscope, etc.
Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose electrical/mechanical problems.
