Description of Work Reporting to a Correctional Programs Supervisor, this position is responsible for conducting initial assessments of offender needs and developing case plans, monitor for compliance and results, and revise as appropriate to meet offender needs and achieve system objectives. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following: - Assessing offender behavior and developing counseling strategies to achieve desired offender progress. - Answering offender questions, giving information about classification and sentencing status, corresponding with offender families, and providing supportive counseling. - Organizing and directing the activities of various rehabilitation programs provided for offender. - Conducting work release and home leave investigations, coordinating community resources, planning and coordinating transition (re-entry) prior to parole or release into the community. - Making recommendations to the offender classification committees on an offender's program involvement or custody level change. - Working with offenders whose problems, needs, and comprehension levels vary greatly. - Serving in a custody role during certain activities. - Working some evening hours, weekends, and holidays. About the Division of Institutions : The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel. About Pender Correctional Institution : Pender Correctional Institution is located in Burgaw, North Carolina and houses up to 768 male offenders in a medium custody facility.
