Description of Work
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
This position is located at Greene Correctional Institution, a minimum custody facility housing 656 offenders. This position provides supervision for subordinate staff, conducts shift line-up, makeshift assignments and inspects all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. This position will also complete, review and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations and administrative forms. This position will account for persons and funds and ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready, identify training needs and coordinate delivery of training to subordinate staff as well as conduct investigations, develop prison operational, emergency plans and post orders.

$45,431.00-$79,504.00

Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility.
Knowledge of facility operations.
Knowledge of Prisons’ policy and procedures.
Documented report writing skills.

Necessary Special Qualifications : MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
To be considered for a Correctional Lieutenant III position, ALL applicants must :
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
Required Adverse Weather Reporting : This position is designated as “Mandatory” and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

The salary grade for this position is NC10. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.
About the Division of Institutions :
The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
