Position Summary The Director, Medical Communications Early Differentiation & Pipeline (EDAPS) and GU Lead is the owner of external scientific communications and publication governance for the early development and GU portfolio and a strategic partner to cross-functional leaders across the matrix. Reporting into the Senior Director, Solid Tumor Medical Communications lead, this role is accountable for end‑to‑end scientific disclosure—ensuring timely, compliant, and high‑quality dissemination of data through publications, congresses, scientific content, and selected reactive communications—while aligning communications to Medical strategy, integrated evidence generation plans, and operational realities (e.g., manufacturing, quality, and supply). Key Responsibilities Lead Medical scientific disclosure strategy for the EDAPS and GU portfolio across asset lifecycles, including manuscripts, abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and selected reactive materials. Represent the primary Medical Communications team to Global Development, Clinical Operations, Translational Medicine, Commercial, Market Access, Patient Safety, Regulatory, Quality, and Manufacturing/Supply — ensuring integrated, patient-centered scientific communications that reflect the realities of early development. Ensure external communications align with development strategy, evidence generation plans, asset maturity, and enterprise priorities while meeting ethical and compliance standards. Serve as accountable owner of reputational, journal, investigator, and compliance risk related to scientific communications, including escalation and decision support for complex/novel scenarios. Drive adoption of best practices, tools, and operating models to improve Medical Communications effectiveness and efficiency, including standardized workflows across indications and assets. Build and sustain Medical Communications leadership capability through talent development and succession planning; coach teams to operate effectively in a complex, matrixed, global environment. Lead and develop global Medical Communications teams across geographies and time zones; cultivate a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement. Manage Medical Communications budget and allocation of funds and resources for the EDAPS and GU portfolio, partnering with matrix stakeholders to make trade-off decisions aligned to highest business priorities. Partner with 3rd party vendors to ensure the appropriate balance of internal and external execution of work. Establish clear metrics aligned to meeting customer needs and demonstrating desired outcomes of activities; regularly communicate metrics with key stakeholders. Qualifications & Experience Advanced scientific degree, PharmD, PhD, or MD preferred. 8–10 years of Pharmaceutical/Healthcare industry experience with a focus on medical communications; experience in early development and/or GU therapeutic area preferred. Good Publication Practice (GPP), Sunshine Act, and post-marketing scientific communications guidance. Deep expertise in external scientific communications across the asset lifecycle, including complex modalities. Scientific and strategic communication skills. Ability to influence in complex, global, matrixed environments. Experience managing global teams and operating in enterprise settings. Enterprise mindset, change leadership orientation, high learning agility. Inclusive, collaborative leadership style aligned with BMS values. Preferred Qualifications Pharmaceutical/Healthcare Industry experience. External compliance, transparency and conflict-of-interest regulated work environments. In-depth knowledge of Good Publication Practices and guidance (GPP, ICMJE), Sunshine Act, Pharma Code of Conduct, and other guidance related to post-marketing practices and scientific data communication. Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP), and ISMPP active member highly desired. Understanding of clinical trial design and execution, statistical methods and clinical trial data reporting requirements. Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of applications, and familiar with publication management tool (iEnvision/DataVision). Compensation Overview: Princeton - NJ - US: $204,200 - $247,437 The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience.
