For additional information please contact: Julie Scism, Search Chair [email protected] Job Summary: This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) Education Program Assistant 1 position for the Oregon State University Division of Extension and Engagement’s Extension Clatsop County Office in Astoria, Oregon. The mission of the Division of Extension and Engagement is to work with communities throughout Oregon to support lifelong learning and co-create innovative solutions to address local challenges. Together, we envision a future where Oregon’s people, communities and ecosystems prosper. This Education Program Assistant provides critical support by assisting the Master Gardener & Small Farms Coordinator with the Master Gardener program in Clatsop County, coordinating training and volunteer programming. This EPA serves as the primary point of contact for approximately 100 volunteers, community partners and the public for the Master Gardener program in Clatsop County.  Key Responsibilities: 1. Coordinate delivery of statewide approved hybrid non-credit curriculum and in-person hands on learning activities. 2. Adapt curriculum to fit local context with program faculty approval.  3. Prepare and assemble materials and supplies for classes, purchase supplies. Ensure that materials are culturally inclusive and accessible. 4. Conduct educational presentations and coordinate volunteer activities at demonstration gardens, fairs, farmers markets, and community events.  5. Manage assignments and staffing at volunteer events, including providing materials for community outreach. 6. Collect and report all contacts made, follow up and evaluate with community partners, and manage volunteer hours reporting system. 7. Distribute outreach and promotional materials. Assemble educational displays and promotional exhibits. Qualifications: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or equivalent and at least two years of relevant experience (paid or volunteer), supporting community programs that serve children, youth, or adults OR Associate Degree and one year of work experience (paid or volunteer) which must be working in youth development programs, adult education, teaching, program delivery or related functions. AND Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated skill to work with diverse audiences. Demonstrated skill to use computers for word processing, data management, and communications. Demonstrated skill to use computers for spreadsheet development, registration and volunteer management, and digital communication tools.  Demonstrated organizational, recordkeeping, and time management skills.   Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with broad and diverse audiences. A commitment to collaborative and respectful learning and working environments that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming.  This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.   This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience coordinating or managing volunteers. Knowledge and skills in sustainable gardening and landscaping.  Ability to learn and adapt to using multiple forms of digital communication systems, including website software, email newsletters, basic graphics, social media, and other tools in a changing technological environment.    Demonstrated ability to work independently and problem solve. Working Conditions/Schedule: • This Education Program Assistant position is based at the OSU Extension Clatsop County Office in Astoria, Oregon. About 70% of work is performed during regular business hours. Flexibility to occasionally work in the evening and on weekends is required, coordinating with supervisor to adapt work schedule to address community programming needs. At times, work will take place outdoors in sheltered locations at public events such as farmers’ markets. • The ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds of teaching materials is required. • This position has regular contact with the public, in person and by telephone or email, to promote awareness of interest in a program. There is regular communication in person, by telephone and email with participants, potential participants, and community partners to deliver educational programs. Education Program Assistants work collaboratively with volunteers. • Driving/travel is required to support delivery of educational programming throughout county, as assigned.
