Job Description Nordstrom - Engineering Manager, Product & Vendor Insights
In the Data & Analytics Services org, our teams build and maintain the data infrastructure that powers product, vendor, and merchandising decisions across Nordstrom. We ensure that every product in our catalog - from typecodes to pricing to item availability - is represented accurately, governed rigorously, and delivered reliably to the systems and teams that depend on it. Our Product & Vendor Insights team owns the enterprise product data layer that makes this possible.
Product data is the foundation of the Nordstrom shopping experience - and of the decisions made across merchandising, supply chain, personalization, and finance. When a style changes price, a new item enters the catalog, or a vendor relationship evolves, our pipelines are what make that change visible across the company. This team sits at the intersection of enterprise strategy and engineering precision - and the Engineering Manager will be its technical and people leader.
Role Summary
The Engineering Manager for Product & Vendor Insights owns one of the most consequential data domains in Nordstrom's enterprise: the product information layer that powers merchandising decisions, personalization, pricing analytics, vendor partner programs, and large-scale selling events and campaigns.
This is a high-visibility role with a broad stakeholder footprint - spanning merchandising, machine learning, digital product, supply chain, compliance, and external partner teams. You will lead a team of approximately 8 engineers (a mix of full-time and contract), drive platform modernization initiatives including a transition to medallion architecture and manage a growing brand partner data program that delivers data feeds for an expanding portfolio of strategic partnerships. You will report to the Director of Merchandising, Customer, and Marketing Reporting & Data Engineering.
A Day in the Life
Lead a team of engineers building and operating the event-driven pipelines and cloud data warehouse products that power product, pricing, vendor, and promotions data across Nordstrom
Own the enterprise product dimension layer - tens of millions of items across the full product hierarchy - consumed by machine learning, personalization, and downstream reporting teams
Drive the brand partner data program: engineering the data feeds that onboard and sustain external brand partners onto Nordstrom's platform
Deliver pricing and promotions data capabilities - pricing analytics, promotional event data, campaign-specific reporting views - in close partnership with merchandising and marketing stakeholders
Lead platform modernization: medallion architecture migration, observability and monitoring tooling, data governance, and cloud infrastructure across a portfolio of event consumer services
Partner with stakeholders across machine learning, digital product, compliance, partner programs, and supply chain to translate business requirements into scalable data products
Contribute to architecture and design decisions - this is a hands-on role with real technical depth expected
Recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent; provide direct feedback and coaching to help engineers grow
Promote DevOps best practices: CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), monitoring, alerting, and incident response
You Own This If You Have
5+ years of relevant software engineering experience, with strong foundations in event-driven systems, distributed data pipelines, or enterprise data products
2+ years of experience managing engineering teams
Hands-on experience with messaging technologies and patterns - Kafka and/or Confluent Cloud strongly preferred
Proficiency with Java and/or Java Spring Boot for building microservice consumers
Experience building and operating data products in a cloud data warehouse (BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar)
Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS and/or GCP) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
Strong understanding of DevOps best practices including CI/CD, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), monitoring, and production support
Proven ability to ship reliable, scalable systems with high data quality standards
BA/BS in Computer Science or closely related field, or equivalent practical experience
We're Also Looking For…
Experience in retail, merchandising, supply chain, or vendor data domains
Familiarity with event sourcing patterns, schema registries, Confluent Cloud platform management, or Apache Flink
Experience delivering cloud data warehouse products - dimensional models, gold/silver layer tables, or similar patterns - at enterprise scale
Experience leading teams through infrastructure migrations, platform consolidations, or medallion/lakehouse architecture transitions
Track record of managing complex stakeholder relationships across business and engineering functions
