Purpose We are seeking an accomplished administrator who will provide oversight of the fiscal functions for the Departments of Arts and Entertainment Technologies (AET) and the Department of Design (DES), in accordance with the university’s policy, and in concert with strategic objectives for the unit. The Finance Manager’s core responsibilities include budgeting, accounting, payroll, and procurement. This role involves close collaboration with executive leadership, faculty, and university staff. Responsibilities Principal Financial Consultant: Serve as principal financial consultant to the department chairs. Responsible for overseeing and conducting complex accounting and finance functions for AET and DES. Collaborate with and serve as advisor to department leadership in strategic planning and fiscal short-term and long-term goal setting. Develop annual operating budgets including endowments and instructional funding. Collaborates with the College of Fine Arts to ensure work objectives and processes are aligned with the Dean's Office goals. Coordinate fiscal and accounting activities with collaborating departments. Assist with special projects and initiatives. Business Process Oversight: Review and evaluate department activities and implement changes to improve and maintain the effectiveness of unit operations in relation to financial activities. Establish and maintain financial procedures, reporting, account structure, and approval framework for the departments. Develop procedures for collecting, analyzing, and reporting financial accounting data. Prepare annual budget update documents (BUDs) and prepare ad-hoc financial reports as needed by department and college leadership. Initiate reconciliation process and monthly expense account certification. Manage fiscal year end activities. Reviews and Approvals: Review and approve account requests, professional payments, faculty/student/staff/visitor travel, reimbursements, purchasing, IDT, cash advances, and inventory. Initiate transfers for accuracy and corrections when necessary. Establish and maintain limits on purchasing, guest travel, and student group travel credit cards. Oversee UT-affiliated professional payments and hourly worker setup in Workday and in compliance with Human Resources and Payroll Services rules and limitations. Review, prepare, and submit purchasing and performance contracts. Staff Supervision and Development: Supervise one business affairs staff member and one to three student employees, including hiring, training, and evaluation. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. Six years of progressively responsible experience in finance or accounting with experience in planning, forecasting and financial analysis. At least three years of supervisory experience. Ability to plan, initiate, and complete assignments with a minimum of direction. Robust analytical skills with ability to translate complex data into simple, understandable information that can drive action. Excellent communication, planning, problem solving, project management, and customer service skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications At least five years of experience at UT Austin. More than six years of related experience. Experience with university systems such as DEFINE, FRMS, Cognos, and Workday. Experience with intermediate or advanced MS Excel features (formulas, tables, pivot tables, etc.) and MS Word Mail Merge.  Salary Range $76,000 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions The work location is 100% on-site at the Department of Arts and Entertainment Technologies. Prolonged screen time. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Exposure to standard office conditions.
