Overview: Reporting directly to the Food Safety & Quality Assurance Supervisor, this position will guide and verify the food safety system is in compliance with internal standards, HACCP, GFSI, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities will include: food safety process verification, conducting document and product reviews to ensure food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements, FSQA document review and certification, conducting direct observations to verify food safety procedure compliance, mentoring and coaching FSQA technicians, and participating in incident investigation/root cause analysis.
Job Description: Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Detailed daily review and verification of Food Safety System documentation
Conducts direct observations to ensure operations in compliance with internal standards, HACCP, GFSI, and other regulatory requirements
Communicates with plant and department leadership on issues related to product quality and food safety
Actively involved in incident investigation process, working with cross functional teams to establish root cause of food safety and / or quality deviations, and developing corrective and preventive actions
Acts as liaison between plant and USDA inspectors to resolve noncompliance issues when needed
Provides support for micro and environmental monitoring programs as directed
Facilitates food safety training for plant teams and contractors
Provides coverage for FSQA Technicians as needed
Proficiently uses Microsoft products and other programs to enter data, generate reports, and track records in a digital environment
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a food science or related discipline, with one (1) to three (3) years experience in a meat-processing environment, or
A combination of an Associates degree and three (3) to five (5) years experience in a meat-processing environment may be considered
HACCP Certification preferred
A thorough knowledge of Food Safety and Quality is required
Language Skills
Fluent in English. Bilingual Spanish preferred.
Must have excellent oral and written skills at a technical and general level.
Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels within both a distribution and corporate environment.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Mathematical Skills
Proficient in performing complex math calculations regarding formulations, added ingredients, restricted ingredients, and percent yields.
Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret complex technical reports, process charts, graphs, and logs
Physical Demands
Candidate will have to work in refrigeration for multiple hours at a time.
Candidate must be willing to stand for multiple hours a day.
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
Must possess sufficient senses to perform effective organoleptic evaluations (corrected sensory ability is acceptable). This includes visual (acuity and color differentiation), olfactory, gustatory, tactile, and auditory ability.
Work Environment
Standard office conditions as well as plant environmental conditions (refrigerated temperatures).
