We are currently recruiting for Health Care Technician I's (HCT I) across multiple units/shifts that will function as Therapeutic Support Specialist I's (TSS) at Central Regional Hospital. The primary purpose of the TSS is to monitor patients and perform technical procedures within the scope of a certified nurse's aide (CNA). All HCT I duties are delegated by, and under the supervision of a Licensed Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include but are not limited to obtaining vital signs, assisting patients with activities of daily living, maintaining level of observations of patients and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Range: $31,200.00 - $46,348.00
Recruitment Range: $35,360.00 - $46,348.00
*Limited-Time Sign-On Bonus for CNAs (Nursing Department Only)
Total: $15,000
• Receive $4,000 in 1st paycheck following start date
• Receive $5,000 after 12 consecutive months
• Receive $6,000 after 18 consecutive months
For a limited time period, DSOHF is offering increased sign-on bonuses for eligible Nursing Department positions, including health care technicians (CNAs) and patient-facing nursing roles who apply between June 1st – August 31st, 2026. Bonus is only available at State Psychiatric Hospitals and does not apply to administrative, educator, or non-direct care nursing positions. Installments are paid in accordance with requirements outlined in sign-on bonus agreement.
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Qualified applicants must be proficient in written and verbal English.
Ability to follow the treatment plans and/or clinical orders
Ability to learn behavior management and supportive counseling techniques.
Ability to observe patients and make written and oral reports
Conditional Requirements: Advanced Physical Skills (APS) certification through the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR certification within 60 days.
Nurse Aide I listing by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. (If applicants are not NA I certified and are selected for a position, training will be offered by the hospital. However, certification must be obtained, and employee must pass all facility required training as a condition of employment.)
Valid driver's license.
This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Work Schedule Shift Premium
1st Shift: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 5% Weekend Only
2nd Shift: 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. 20% Weekdays + 5% on Weekends
3rd Shift: 11:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m. 10% Weekdays + 5% on Weekends
*Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency
DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
