Overview
The Litigation & Claims Associate, Residential is responsible for managing a portfolio of insured and uninsured claims and litigation matters across a growing multifamily residential platform. This role serves as a key liaison between internal business stakeholders, insurance partners, and outside counsel to ensure claims and disputes are managed efficiently, consistently, and in alignment with company objectives.
The ideal candidate brings experience in claims management, litigation support, risk management, insurance, or a related field and is comfortable handling matters from initial incident reporting through resolution. This individual will contribute to risk mitigation initiatives, support operational decision-making, and provide meaningful insights into claims and litigation trends across the portfolio.
Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of insured and uninsured claims and litigation matters from initial reporting through resolution, settlement, or closure.
Evaluate incidents, claims, and disputes to identify potential insurance coverage, liability considerations, and appropriate resolution strategies.
Coordinate with insurance carriers, brokers, adjusters, third-party administrators, and outside counsel to facilitate effective claims handling and litigation management.
Support all aspects of liability claims/litigation management, including fact investigations, document collection and production, discovery coordination, case tracking, settlement administration, and ongoing case strategy discussions.
Review and analyze litigation-related documents, including pleadings, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, releases, settlement agreements, and related correspondence.
Manage property insurance claims by coordinating with operational teams, monitoring claim progress, facilitating communications, and supporting recovery efforts and insurance proceeds administration.
Partner with Property Management, Operations, Asset Management, Construction, Maintenance, Human Resources, Accounting, Risk Management and Legal stakeholders to gather information and drive timely resolution of matters.
Monitor claim reserves, settlements, recoveries, and financial exposure across the portfolio.
Maintain litigation and claims trackers, reporting tools, and case files to ensure accurate portfolio visibility and timely reporting.
Prepare summaries, presentations, and analyses for senior leadership regarding litigation exposure, claim status, reserve activity, settlement trends, and operational risk.
Identify trends, recurring issues, and risk exposures, and recommend process improvements and preventative measures to reduce future claims.
Assist with the development and implementation of claims management and litigation-related policies, procedures, and best practices.
Provide insights on open claims, loss experience, and emerging exposures to support insurance program administration, renewals, underwriting submissions, and carrier stewardship activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Approximately 5 years of experience in claims management, litigation support, insurance, legal operations, risk management, corporate legal departments, law firms, or related fields.
Experience managing or coordinating insurance claims and litigation matters with increasing levels of responsibility.
Working knowledge of civil litigation processes and legal documentation, including pleadings, discovery requests, subpoenas, releases, and settlement agreements.
Exposure to commercial general liability, property, environmental, workers' compensation, or other insurance claim types.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risk and support business decision-making.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience within multifamily housing, commercial real estate, property management, or related industries.
Familiarity with claims management systems, legal management software, or reporting tools.
Experience preparing executive-level reporting and litigation summaries.
