What You’ll Do
NetDocuments has just unveiled a major redesign of the platform our customers rely on every day. The new experience is built on a foundation that captures how the matters, documents, and people inside a firm connect — so AI can work the way legal professionals actually work. The launch is being covered as one of the most significant platform shifts in legal technology this year, and our CPO has called it the deepest piece of platform engineering we have ever shipped.
This is the team behind a major piece of that experience: the next-generation web application, the design system that gives it shape, the surfaces customers touch every day, and the integrations that bring AI-driven document understanding into the product. We’re seeking an Engineering Manager to lead one of the engineering teams building it.
The work is in flight. We’re shipping to real customers, sharpening the experience, and growing the team. You’ll join at a formative moment for the platform — when leadership decisions, technical bets, and team-building habits compound for years.
This is one of the largest strategic investments NetDocuments has made. The Engineering Manager who leads this team will help shape what NetDocuments becomes — and grow the leadership skills and experience that pave the way for future opportunities.
A few principles shape this work and the candidates we’re looking for in this role:
Validate, then scale. We ship to real users early, learn fast, and earn our way to production hardening as the product proves its value.
AI-forward. The new platform is not a refreshed UI on the old product — it’s designed around what AI makes possible.
Customer feedback drives the roadmap. What we build next, and when, is shaped by what customers tell us matters most.
Built from the ground up. We’re not patching the past. We’re building a new foundation that meets a higher bar for usability, reliability, and intelligence.
In this role, you will:
Lead and develop a high-performing team
Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately 5–6 software engineers and software test engineers.
Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Partner with recruiting to attract and hire exceptional engineering talent.
Support career growth through mentorship, feedback, and performance development.
Create the conditions for engineers to do their best work.
Drive delivery and execution
Partner closely with Product, Design, and platform engineering teams to turn customer needs into scalable software solutions.
Help build and execute a roadmap that balances customer-facing impact, technical excellence, and long-term platform durability.
Guide your team through planning, execution, and delivery while holding a high bar for quality.
Lead through ambiguity — sequencing the work, derisking it, and adjusting as we learn from real users.
Collaborate cross-functionally
Coordinate across multiple engineering teams contributing to a shared product vision — a meaningful portion of this role is unlocking work that crosses team boundaries.
Communicate priorities, risks, and progress clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Build the partnerships that drive alignment and execution across the organization.
Provide technical leadership
Provide technical guidance and architectural input while empowering engineers to own implementation details.
Champion modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, cloud-native architectures, observability, automat
