Overview
The Equipment Design Engineer II is responsible for designing new complex automated equipment for all divisions, modifying existing equipment, various purchasing duties, and making sure equipment runs properly.
The Equipment Design Engineer II coordinates with various divisions to implements equipment and automated systems across East Penn. The Equipment Design Engineer II must maintain the engineering methods that support problem solving and continuous improvement efforts established by the Sr. Equipment Design Engineer and the Equipment Manager.
Responsibilities
Designs and develops complex equipment through to implementation and validation
Organizes and directs equipment launches and enhancements
Maintains quality work produced by the department Influences team members and promotes idea to improve design and implementation practices
Analyzes cost and benefits of various solutions, followed by appropriate recommendations
Produces drawings and data sheets to ensure compliance with design criteria standards
Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned project phases and prepares required reports and summaries to communicate project progress or results.
Ensures successful completion of assigned project phases within the budgeted time and cost constraints set forth for them by the Equipment Manager.
Coordinates large and small projects through installation, issue identification, analysis and repairs.
Defines process sequences and operational targets for automated lines and workflows.
Collaborates with internal stakeholder as well as external automation design teams
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Design Engineering or related field of study
3+ years of related work experience in Machine Design
Prior experience designing custom automation equipment and intricate mechanism design
Prior hands-on experience beneficial
Demonstrates creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices
Ability and willingness to grow and learn in the job
Ability to conceptualize new automation techniques; design and implement these concepts on a continual basis
Working knowledge of a variety of technologies commonly used in automated equipment (motors, pneumatics, tooling and machine shop practices etc.)
Strong hands-on prototyping abilities
Proficient in modeling & drafting software (AutoCad/Solidworks)
Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills
Ability to work cross-functionally to communicate clearly with non-experts about technical requirements and features
Ability to prioritize multiple, competing priorities during high volume periods
Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem solving and organizational skills
Team player with proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; PowerPoint, Word and Excel
Basic understanding of PLC programming, ladder logic, and input/output functionality
Basic understanding of electrical schematics
