Overview Job Title:  Medical Director – Acute Rehabilitation Employment Type:  Full-Time Organization:  Central Maine Healthcare Location:  Lewiston, Maine Position Summary The Medical Director of Acute Rehabilitation at Central Maine Medical Center provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for the inpatient rehabilitation program. This physician leader ensures high-quality, patient-centered care while driving program growth, regulatory compliance, and superior functional outcomes in alignment with Prime Healthcare’s mission. Responsibilities Provide medical leadership and oversight of the Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) Direct patient care activities including admissions, continued stays, and discharge planning in accordance with IRF criteria Lead interdisciplinary team conferences to coordinate comprehensive rehabilitation care Develop and implement clinical protocols, pathways, and quality improvement initiatives Ensure compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission, and all applicable regulations Collaborate with hospital leadership to drive program growth and operational efficiency Monitor and improve key metrics such as length of stay, functional outcomes, and readmission rates Oversee utilization management, documentation accuracy, and medical necessity reviews Recruit, mentor, and supervise rehabilitation physicians and advanced practice providers Qualifications MD or DO degree from an accredited institution Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) preferred Active, unrestricted Maine medical license (or ability to obtain) Minimum 3–5 years of inpatient rehabilitation experience Prior leadership experience strongly preferred Working knowledge of IRF-PAI,
