The Testing Personnel in Microbiology provide specimen processing, test performance and results reporting that are authorized by the Laboratory Director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the incumbent’s education, training or experience and technical capabilities. Scope of Supervision - given and/or received: (quantifiable dimensions of position): Reports to the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant or Laboratory Director. Performs high complexity testing only under the onsite direct supervision of a General Supervisor. Principal functional responsibilities: Follows the laboratory’s procedure for specimen handling and processing including plating/inoculating of media, enzyme assays, and or molecular testing. Reads and interprets all types of routine microbiology cultures, parasitology procedures, enzyme assays and molecular testing. Perform other related laboratory testing in the microbiology department, including but not limited to rapid testing, automated and manual susceptibility testing, automated blood cultures, automated EIA testing, automated probe and NAAT testing. Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies; documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Follows the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problem or immediately notifies the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant or Laboratory Director. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications. Qualifications/requirements : (education, experience, training required to perform position) This position meets all necessary requirements for Testing Personnel as outlined in CLIA regulations. This position requires a Medical Technologist or Medical Technician degree or equivalent. ASCP or AMT licensure strongly preferred with 2-4 years of previous clinical laboratory experience.
