Patient Care Technician (PCT) Workforce Development Training Program (External)

Overview The  PCT Workforce Development Training Program  combines classroom learning & clinical hands-on training, all while being a full-time PAID employee at CentraState Medical Center .  To be considered for the program, you must first interview and be hired as an employee.  After 1 year, employees are eligible to sit for the National PCT certification test. Provides basic nursing care and assists patient with activities of daily living. Responsibilities Provides considerate respectful care focused upon the patient's individual need. Accurately checks exterior of code cart each shift. Affirms the patient's right to make decisions regarding his/her medical care, including the decision to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law. Collects and labels specimens without error. Accurately performs bedside glucose monitoring, and calibration of Accucheck and enters data. Correctly performs all scheduled and assigned tasks while continually observing patient needs. Retrieves blood from the Blood Bank. Verbalizes/performs understanding of 1:1 precautions and documents appropriately. Supports operations by demonstrating ability and willingness to float between units as a PCT and provides 1:1 patient observation when deemed necessary. Performs post mortem care. Follows CentraState policy regarding restraint application, documentation and observation. Always answers patient call lights in a timely manner. Provides basic nursing care, including partial and/or complete direct personal hygienic care to patients (i.e.: bathing, feeding, diversional activity) and assists patients with activities of daily living. Properly performs electrocardiograms. Provides partial and/or complete direct personal hygienic care to patients. Accurately performs simple wound care and ostomy care. Accurately collects and documents patient data (TPR, I&O, specimen collection, height and weight) utilizing learned technical skills under the direction of the RN. Accurately documents patient data and comfort rounds in Wellsoft system. Correctly makes occupied and unoccupied beds. Notifies nurse immediately for patient's complaints of pain/discomfort and any observed change in condition. Provides appropriate interventions for pain as directed by nurse and reports outcomes. Assists with the elimination needs of the patient while providing privacy and dignity. Performs rounding as per guidelines. Correctly feeds patients. Performs tasks to maintain patient mobility. Accurately maintains feeding tubes. Accurately performs incentive spirometry and pulse oximetry. Accurately obtains and documents temperatures, pulses, respirations and blood pressure. Accurately measures and documents intake and output. Reports patient intake and output to nurse. Supports cost containment through efficient use of equipment, supplies and other pertinent resources. Qualifications 18 years of age or older High school diploma or equivalent required PCT training provided by CentraState's Nursing Education & Professional Development team- 100% on-site at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, NJ Commitment to minimum of One (1) year of Full-Time employment.  (Three 12 hour shifts [7-7:30] per week, including alternating weekends and holidays) BLS certification (American Heart Association only) required upon hire. Glucose certifications are provided by CentraState during orientation. Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team. Must be fluent in English speaking, reading, and writting skills *If you currently hold any of the following requirements, you may qualify for a PCT role without needing our training program: Currently enrolled in an RN program AND have completed at least 1 semester of clinicals OR Have recently completed a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Patient Care Technician (PCT) course AND received a license OR Have recently worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a nursing home/sub-acute center or Patient Care Technician (PCT) within an inpatient acute-care hospital setting for at least One (1) year.
