CORE JOB SUMMARY The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS 1. DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM Department Specific Functions Support the PI in launching new interdisciplinary neural engineering, neuroimaging and neuromodulation research and educational initiatives in the BME Department, across the College of Engineering, Maimi Project to Cure Paralysis and Desai Sethi Urology Institute, and across the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. Lead and contribute to research in movement dysfunction, pain and psychiatric disorders, involving precision medicine, AI-powered and AI-enabled neuromodulation and physical rehabilitation system, including human physiological sensing, biosignal processing, feature extraction, deep reinforcement learning, and human-machine interaction. Facilitate strategic collaborations across departments within the College of Engineering and with the UM Miller School of Medicine, to advance research in disease phenotyping, neuromodulation, and physical rehabilitation for movement dysfunctions, chronic pain, and psychiatric disorders. Assist with setting up the PI’s new research lab, including hardware/software integration, experimental platforms, and safety protocols. Support preparation and submission of competitive grant proposals to foundation, industry, and federal funding agencies, including the NIH and NSF. Mentor and help recruit and train graduate students and undergraduate researchers. Design and conduct experimental studies. Present research findings at national and international conferences and contribute to the preparation of peer-reviewed publications in leading scientific journals and conference proceedings. Department Specific Qualifications                                                                                       Education: A Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Neuroscience, Applied Mathematics, or another closely related engineering or quantitative discipline is required.  Certification and Licensing: N/A Experience: Less than 5 years of research experience following completion of a Ph.D. Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: Required Knowledge Advanced Understanding of electrophysiological signal acquisition and analysis, including EEG, EMG, and related bio-signals. Advanced knowledge of human neurophysiology, motor control, neuromuscular function, pain mechanisms, psychiatric, and the neural circuits underlying behavior, cognition, and functional recovery. Knowledge of multimodal neuroimaging principles and methodologies, including EEG, NIRS, MRI and diffusion imaging techniques. Familiarity with human-subject research methodologies, experimental design, and statistical analysis. Understanding of clinical research involving neurological, psychiatric, pain-related, or movement disorders. Required Skills Demonstrated ability to independently design, implement, and manage complex human-subject research studies. Strong quantitative data analysis skills and Hands-on experience with multimodal imaging including EMG, EEG, NIRS, MRI, or other neurophysiological and neuroimaging technologies. Experience with signal processing, machine learning, statistical modeling, and multimodal data integration. Strong scientific writing skills, with a demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Ability to contribute to grant writing, particularly NIH-style proposals and progress reports.
