Boys Town is seeking an experienced and service-oriented Purchasing Manager to lead the day-to-day procurement operations that support our mission-driven healthcare and youth care programs. This position is responsible for ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and compliant acquisition of goods and services while driving operational efficiency, vendor performance, and inventory optimization across the organization. As the Purchasing Manager, you will oversee purchasing activities, lead supplier negotiations, manage procurement processes and technologies, and partner with internal stakeholders to ensure organizational needs are met. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership, analytical, and relationship-management skills who is committed to responsible financial stewardship.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Oversees purchasing for both the hospital and social service divisions, ensuring the team’s skills and expertise are effectively utilized to support the organization as a whole. Develops and implements purchasing strategies to support operational and financial objectives.
Maintains a centralized purchasing model with strong internal controls.
Oversees day-to-day purchasing activities, ensuring timely procurement of goods and services.
Implements and optimizes procurement technologies (ERP, e‑procurement tools, vendor portals).
Sources, evaluates, and selects suppliers based on quality, cost, and service.
Negotiates pricing, terms, and service agreements to maximize value.
Builds and maintains strong vendor relationships while monitoring vendor performance.
Partners with the contract management team to align purchasing decisions with contractual requirements.
Acts as a resource for the acquisition of capital equipment and ensures appropriate approval processes are followed.
Identifies material resource savings through analysis of supply utilization practices, delivery systems and contract compliance.
Collaborates with Finance, Accounts Payable, and department leaders to ensure alignment on budgets and purchasing plans.
Tracks and reports key purchasing metrics, budget impacts, and cost‑avoidance achievements.
Oversees the inventory function to ensure optimal inventory levels are maintained to meet operational demands.
Analyzes inventory data to identify trends, shortages, excess stock, and obsolescence.
Oversees inventory management systems and ensures data accuracy.
Oversees receiving, storage, and distribution processes.
Establishes reorder points and safety stock levels.
Leads and trains inventory staff.
Develops, documents, and refines procurement and inventory policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with legal, finance, audit, and regulatory standards.
Leads process‑improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, transparency, and customer service.
Supervises, mentors, and evaluates purchasing and inventory staff.
Provides training and support to business partners across the organization to ensure adherence to procurement policies and procedures.
Fosters a collaborative, service-oriented culture across procurement functions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of procurement best practices, competitive bidding, inventory management, and contract terms.
Strong negotiation and vendor‑management skills.
Proficiency with ERP systems and procurement software.
Excellent critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels in the organization and with external business contacts in an articulate, professional manner.
Ability to work independently in a collaborative environment, while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
Commitment to ethical purchasing and financial stewardship.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Minimum of 7 years of procurement, sourcing, contract negotiation, vendor management, or related experience required.
Experience in reviewing and developing contractual agreements with suppliers required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master’s degree in business administration (MBA), supply chain management, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role preferred.
Experience in a complex, multi-department organization and/or healthcare preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT: Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks. Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop, monitor, keyboard, and a general workstation set-up.
