It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work This position is located at Avery/Mitchell Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution has been designated as a reentry facility and will direct programs to work toward the rehabilitation of offenders during their period of incarceration and prepare them for reentry into society and work as a Reentry team with a designated Probation Chief and Reentry Probation officer. The position will work under the direct supervision of the Correctional Programs Director I and provide immediate supervision to the Reentry Case Manager. Key Duties Included: - Develop, implement, and maintain one or more major and broad programs for offenders - Supervise program areas which consist of offender classification; correctional programs (work release, incentive wage, study release, home leave, adult basic education, volunteer programs, religion, and recreation); and supportive counseling. - Work with external community agencies to enrich programs, establish new programs, and to conduct home leave and work release investigations. - Review and monitor the effectiveness of community volunteer workers assigned to programs activities and at times supervise subordinate staff · Able to coordinate program activities with custody staff · Communicate effectively both orally and written form during presentations and completing reports and/or managing documents Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Range-$39,244-$68,679 Salary Grade: NC08 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required.  Documented knowledge of policies and procedures of the Prisons section. Documented knowledge of correctional programs and evidence-based practices. Documented of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs.
