Resident Director

SUMMARY The Resident Director will report to the Director of Residential Life Housing. This position is a versatile role within the department and will develop and lead a residential community. The position is directly responsible for the overall operations and administration of their assigned building(s). Resident Directors oversee the student Resident Advisors assigned to their building(s) and serve as a mentor and role to student workers and residential community members. Resident Directors will practice and integrate the Residential Life and Housing Core Values (Relationally Driven, Student Centered, Learning Focused, and Know and Be Known) daily as well as actively modeling the Way of the Warrior tenants. To be successful in this position, the person must be an excellent communicator, be able to transition quickly between priorities, and have strong empathy skills. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES · Oversight of a large population of student Resident Advisors, which includes conducting weekly meetings, training, onboarding, hiring, evaluation and feedback on performance, development, coaching, etc. · Oversight of program budgets, manage key audits, roommate agreements, and other similar administrative tasks. · Coordinate opening and closing of resident halls, including providing above average customer service to students and their families during these events. · Manage, coordinate, and maintain hall duty rotations, desk coverage, hall openings/closings, occupancy audits, room changes, pre-arrival, break room checks, and overall health and safety inspections. This also includes participating in rotating weekly on-call systems to train student Resident Advisors and residents on emergency response. · Provide leadership during crisis in residence halls and in the greater campus community by assisting agencies such as ESU police, local fire/police depts., and other emergency services. · Coach and mentor team members in appropriately confronting and documenting behavioral issues and concerns, and addressing student conflicts. · Support and assist student staff with implementation and evaluation of programs within the Community Engagement Model. This includes fostering and promoting a positive community while serving as a diversity advocate and first-level campus resource making appropriate referrals to university resources. · Train others on university rules, regulations, and policies; adjudicate student conduct matters as assigned; enforce as appropriate; consult with supervisor and/or Dean of Student Life regarding student and/or community safety concerns. · Lead and serve on various departmental committees or initiatives as assigned or approved by supervisor. Committees and initiatives may include Recruitment and Selection, Training and Development, semester service initiatives, teaching RA Class sessions, Residence Hall Association, Moses Society or NRHH Advising. Participate on a minimum of one Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence Division committee. · Performs related work as required.
