Respiratory Care Practitioner (CRT)

Overview This position provides respiratory therapy care for patients throughout the hospital.  We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) with a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential to join our patient‑centered clinical team. In this role, you will provide high‑quality respiratory care to patients across various age groups and acuity levels, working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities Essential Functions PERFORMS PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES TO INCLUDE ALL FORMS OF RESPIRATORY THERAPY AND OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES UTILIZING APPLICABLE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.Interprets and executes physician ordersDemonstrates the ability to individualize therapy to meet the patient's needDemonstrates the ability to anticipate the patient needsDemonstrates the ability to calculate medication dosagesPerforms patient educationPerforms all duties in an efficient and timely mannerNotifies leader of respiratory care, supervisor, or unit leader of any inappropriate patient care issuesDocuments all medication and patient care errorsUses protective equipment appropriatelyPerforms intubations and change tracheostomy tubes as assignedPractices good body mechanics, getting assistance as needed to protect patient and own safetyRemains alert and responsive to all alarms/call lightsFollows good hand washing and infection control procedures between patients and proceduresPerforms testing in a manner that ensures accurate results.Maintains a clean work area, checks and stocks supplies in their specific area.Performs oxygen rounds as assigned.Responds to all pages and requests in a timely mannerResponds to emergency situations and codes immediatelyRemains calm and effective in emergency and/or stressful situationsEnsures patient safety in the hospital environment by following policy/procedures and adhering to National Patient Safety GoalsPerforms patient bedside lab testing (ABGs) and associated quality control in compliance with medical provider’s orders and hospital lab procedures/policies. PERFORMS VENTILATOR MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCEMaintains knowledgeable of all modes of ventilation and a weaning modalityResponds promptly to urgent needsUses protective equipment appropriatelyParticipates in patient rounds with physiciansPerforms ventilator checks every 4 hours and PRNSets appropriate ventilator alarms within recommended parametersEducates students and other health professionals about ventilator functionsDocuments ventilator settings and patient information accuratelyActs as patient advocatePractices appropriate patient assessment skills to evaluate patient needsContacts physicians to improve patient careContacts physicians concerning ventilator settingsCollaborates with appropriate healthcare worker concerning patient care issuesSets-up, verifies proper function, operates, and monitors ventilators, BIPAP and CPAP MAINTAINS ACCURATE DOCUMENTATION AND ACCURATE COMPUTER ENTRYCompletes documentation of all therapy, ventilator, and oxygenCompletes documentation on all internal formsDocuments complete and accurate charge entry dailyMaintains current credentials ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS/HER ONGOING PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENTLearns the functions of all new equipmentLearns new proceduresMaintains knowledgeable of departmental policies and proceduresCompletes all mandatory education within the stated time frameAttends educational offerings to validate skillsMaintains current knowledge of all equipmentMaintains current license Qualifications Education Level Field of Study Associate's Degree Respiratory Therapy Or Certificate of Completion Respiratory Therapy Education Note: in a CoARC or CoARTE approved Respiratory Care Program Licenses/Certifications Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) And Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) And Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA) And Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA) And Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 1 year - American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) And Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA) Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) within 1 Year Tests Performed: Performs only those CLIA tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities. Lab Procedures: Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Record Maintenance: Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. Quality Control: Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Corrective Action Policies: Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance. Corrective Action Documentation: Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications Problem Identification: Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance
