Senior Applications Engineer Austin, TX Meet the Team Join the NPI Platform and Security Applications team at Silicon Labs, where you’ll play a key role in bringing next-generation silicon products to market. This team turns cutting-edge hardware into real-world, system-level solutions that customers can quickly evaluate, adopt, and scale. You’ll work at the intersection of product innovation and customer impact—partnering with Product, Systems, and leading customers to prototype solutions, shape product direction, and accelerate adoption across a growing ecosystem. Responsibilities Lead the architecture, design, implementation, and validation of embedded software and reference applications for next-generation silicon platforms Develop complete system-level solutions that address complex customer use cases using Silicon Labs hardware and software platforms Drive proof-of-concept demonstrations, evaluation platforms, and reference designs that showcase new device capabilities and accelerate customer adoption Lead debugging and root-cause analysis of complex hardware and software issues using advanced embedded development and validation tools Collaborate across Product, Firmware, Hardware, Systems, and Applications Engineering teams to influence product architecture, roadmap decisions, and customer success Partner directly with strategic customers to understand system requirements, reproduce complex issues, provide technical guidance, and accelerate successful product integration Define and maintain high-quality application examples, reference designs, technical documentation, and best practices that scale across the organization Optimize embedded applications for performance, power efficiency, security, scalability, and long-term maintainability Provide technical leadership by mentoring engineers, reviewing designs and code, and promoting engineering best practices Translate customer feedback and field experience into actionable recommendations that improve products, software, documentation, and development tools Evaluate emerging embedded technologies and drive adoption of new architectures, methodologies, and development tools across the team Skills You Need Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 6–10 years of professional experience Extensive experience developing embedded software using C/C++ on microcontrollers (bare-metal and RTOS-based systems) Demonstrated success leading the development and delivery of complex embedded systems from architecture through production release Strong expertise debugging complex hardware/software interactions across multiple abstraction layers Experience with RTOS (e.g., Zephyr), Linux-based systems, and modern embedded software architectures Deep understanding of embedded interfaces including SPI, I2C, UART, DMA, interrupts, timers, and system-level integration Experience developing and deploying Edge AI / embedded ML applications on resource-constrained devices Strong understanding of embedded system optimization for performance, power consumption, reliability, and security Proven experience working directly with customers to solve complex technical challenges and influence successful product adoption Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives and influence engineering decisions without direct authority Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage customers, executives, and global engineering teams The Following Qualifications Will Be Considered a Plus Deep experience with embedded security technologies and implementations, including: Cryptographic algorithms and secure operations Secure boot and secure debug TrustZone or similar hardware isolation technologies Tamper detection and secure storage Secure provisioning and manufacturing workflows Experience with motor control systems (FOC, control algorithms, power electronics) Embedded vision, image processing, or camera pipeline development Experience developing CI/CD pipelines, DevOps workflows, and hardware-in-the-loop testing frameworks Python or other scripting languages for automation, testing, and tooling Silicon bring-up, hardware validation, or post-silicon characterization experience Strong understanding of multi-core MCU architectures, concurrency, low-level optimization, and ARM/RISC-V architectures Experience defining software architecture, technical strategy, or platform-level reference implementations Demonstrated success mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence across teams Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools and modern software engineering practices Benefits & Perks    You can look forward to the following benefits:      Great medical (Choice of PPO or Consumer Driven Health Plan with HSA), dental and vision plans   Highly competitive salary   401k plan with match Equity rewards (RSUs)   Life/AD&D and disability coverage Flexible spending accounts   Adoption   assistance   Back-Up childcare   Additional   benefit options (Commuter benefits, Legal benefits, Pet insurance)   Flexible PTO schedule   3 paid volunteer days per year   Tuition reimbursement   Free downtown parking
