Overview: Identifies, analyzes and recommends alternative investments to improve portfolio outcomes for clients.
Primary Responsibilities: Manager selection, due diligence and monitoring across private equity, private real estate, private credit and hedge funds
Collaborate with client-facing colleagues to strengthen their understanding of investment solutions.
Participate in client and prospect meetings to help solidify current relationships and to develop new business.
Analyze risks, exposures and performance drivers of investment strategies.
Manage and allocate research work to less experienced teammates.
Prepare documentation to approve investments, and communicate portfolio performance, investment options, risks and pending decisions.
Conduct regular meetings and calls to discuss organizational developments, investment strategy and performance/risk.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience, OR in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience
Strong understanding of capital markets and current knowledge of the state of the industry
Excellent written and presentation skills
Proficient with common industry tools, including Bloomberg, FactSet and Morningstar Direct
Highly analytical, research-driven skill set
Prior experience communicating insights to internal and external stakeholders
Hands on investment experience in alternative asset classes at wealth manager, family office, foundation, endowment, consultant or other institutional asset management firm
Education and Experience Preferred: Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience
CFA, progress toward obtaining CFA designation
Advanced Degree
Network of industry contacts
Experience mentoring and developing junior teammates

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $128,100.00 - $213,500.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
