The Senior Scientist - Applications will provide critical scientific leadership for Molecular Devices' growing plate reader business while supporting all product lines across the portfolio. This role fills an important gap between Sales and Field Applications by improving coordination, driving application-focused customer engagements, increasing technical depth in GxP accounts, and enabling seamless pre-sales and post-sales support. In addition, the role will be responsible for generating high-quality validation data, application workflows, and scientific evidence that support marketing initiatives, customer-facing content, and the scientific credibility of Molecular Devices solutions. Success in this position will directly contribute to revenue growth, customer retention, market adoption, and the company's reputation as a trusted scientific partner within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and regulated testing markets. This position reports to the Director –Scientific Applications and is part of the Product Innovation and Strategy team located in San Jose, California and will be an on-site role.   In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Develop a deep understanding of customer personas, workflows, and decision-making processes across research, quality control, and regulated laboratory environments, using those insights to identify unmet needs and opportunities for growth. Translate customer challenges into scientifically relevant application workflows, validation studies, and technical resources that demonstrate how Molecular Devices solutions address real-world problems. Generate high-quality validation data, proof points, and application evidence that support product positioning, strengthen scientific credibility, and enable more impactful customer and marketing communications. Act as a strategic link between customers, Sales, Field Applications, Marketing, and Product Management, ensuring customer insights are effectively translated into commercial strategies, content, and solution development. Drive adoption of Molecular Devices technologies by creating customer-centric technical content, best practices, and application-focused resources that help customers achieve successful outcomes and maximize the value of their investment. The essential requirements of the job include: Bachelor's degree in biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related life science discipline, with multiple years of experience in a customer-focused role within the life science tools, biotechnology, diagnostics, or scientific instrumentation industry. Demonstrated expertise in microplate reader technologies and associated applications, with the ability to apply scientific knowledge to solve customer challenges and support successful technology adoption. Proven ability to engage, influence, and build strong relationships with both external customers and internal stakeholders, collaborating effectively across Sales, Field Applications, Marketing, Product Management, and Service organizations. Commercially minded with a strong understanding of customer needs, market opportunities, and the ability to translate scientific requirements into solutions that drive customer success and business growth. Experience designing and executing validation studies, generating high-quality scientific data, and developing application-focused content that supports product positioning, marketing initiatives, and the scientific credibility of Molecular Devices solutions. Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements: if applicable for role Ability to travel periodically to support scientific conferences, trade shows, customer engagements, and internal meetings. Ability to work in a laboratory environment, including extended periods of standing and operating laboratory equipment. Ability to occasionally lift, move, and carry laboratory consumables, demonstration materials, and light equipment. Ability to safely handle laboratory reagents and follow established laboratory safety procedures. It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in: Working within regulated laboratory environments, including GxP workflows, assay validation, method development, or compliance-focused applications. Developing scientific content such as application notes, technical notes, validation reports, marketing support materials, or sales enablement resources based on experimental data and customer workflows.
