It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work This role performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of buildings and facilities. The position requires proficiency in two or more technical trades and operates at the journey level across disciplines such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, HVAC, or comparable fields. Work assignments are complex and often require planning, coordination, and the integration of multiple trade specialties. Employees perform tasks with limited supervision, consulting higher‑level specialists only when facing unfamiliar or advanced maintenance challenges. The role may provide technical guidance to others performing skilled, semiskilled, or general maintenance tasks and ensures that all work meets established standards and specifications. Key Duties • General construction knowledge including carpentry, concrete, and /or finishes. • Perform journey‑level maintenance, repair, and construction work across multiple skilled trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, masonry). • Diagnose complex facility and equipment issues and plan multi‑trade solutions to resolve them. • Work independently with minimal oversight, consulting supervisors only for unusual or advanced problems. • Provide technical guidance and support to other maintenance staff, including semiskilled or unskilled workers. • Ensure all work complies with established safety regulations, building codes, and maintenance standards. You must be able to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs continuously. Work may take place outdoors in all weather conditions. You must be able to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs continuously. Work may take place outdoors in all weather conditions.
