We are seeking an experienced Underground Utility Operator to work on our heavy civil construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating heavy equipment used in the installation of underground wet utilities, including water mains, sanitary sewer systems, storm drainage systems, and related infrastructure. As a key member of our team, the Operator will work closely with other crew members and subcontractors to ensure that projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest level of quality.
Responsibilities Operate heavy equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and other utility construction equipment, to support the installation of underground water, sewer, and storm drain systems.
Safely excavate trenches while maintaining proper grade, alignment, and trench safety requirements.
Work closely with pipe crews during utility installation, backfilling, and compaction operations.
Maintain equipment and perform basic repairs as needed
Communicate regularly with other crew members and subcontractors to ensure that work is completed on schedule and within budget
Develop and maintain relationships with crew members and subcontractors to ensure that they are aware of project schedules and deadlines
Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and that safety procedures are followed at all times
Identify and resolve issues that arise during construction projects
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in heavy equipment operation preferred
3+ years of experience operating heavy equipment in heavy civil construction, with a strong preference for underground utility experience
Experience excavating around existing utilities and working in trenching operations for water, sewer, and storm drain installation
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
Knowledge of GPS machine control and grade systems is a plus
Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences
Ability to read and interpret utility plans, profiles, grade stakes, and construction specifications
Understanding of trench safety, excavation procedures, and underground utility installation best practices
Experience with government contracts and compliance is a plus
