Data Engineer

Our small data science team is changing the way healthcare decisions are made. We’re taking advantage of new technologies and the latest in statistics and machine learning to rapidly analyze new kinds of healthcare data. We have one-of-a-kind access to health and behavior datasets, and we’re using it to change the world for the better. Our distributed data processing and analysis pipeline is built on top of technologies like Spark, Hadoop, Elasticsearch, Python, and Scala, and we need brilliant engineers to help us scale it and adapt it to new challenges. This is the perfect job if you have a software engineering background and want to get involved in healthcare and big data engineering. We have offices in Menlo Park, CA and Santa Barbara, CA and a Surf Air membership so you can rove between the offices. This position is in Santa Barbara, CA. Responsibilities: Own our data ETL pipelines Investigate, prototype, and validate new analytics systems Optimize our analytics systems for performance, cost, and availability Design and implement new data analytics systems using top-notch software engineering practices Work closely with our Data Scientists to deliver dashboards, insights, and data pipelines to clients Requirements: Background in quantitative fields (Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Physics) You’re a strong analytical thinker and coder. Think ACM-ICPC, IOI, and IPSC. You’re a great software engineer who writes modular, extensible, well-designed systems. You have solid experience with Python and SQL.
