Job Description Summary:
The purpose of this role is to assist the Registered Nurses, Physicians, and Physician Assistants in providing direct care to the patients. This care team member will obtain and record vital signs, provide assistance with personal care and activities of daily living, transport patients, apply orthopedic splints and immobilizers, conduct EKG testing, and other duties delegated to them by licensed personnel. The Emergency Department Technician will also help maintain a safe and efficient patient care environment by stocking supply and linen carts, replacing full sharps containers, cleaning equipment and stretchers, and other duties as assigned by the Manager or their designee.

Education:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent required
Experience:
A minimum of one year experience as an EMT, Paramedic, or CAN
Experience as an Orthopedic Technician is preferred
Enrollment in a registered nursing program with completion of at least the first year of instruction may substitute for the required experience.
License and Certifications:
Cert Phlebotomy Tech I (CPT I) or Cert Phlebotomy Tech II (CPT II) required at hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required at hire.
Integrative Agitation Management (IAMTAC) Required within 30 days of hire
Prerequisite Skills:
Ability to read, speak, write clearly and legible, and understand and follow English verbal and written instructions
Ability to establish priorities and follow through on assigned tasks
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, team members and other hospital staff
Knowledge of medical terminology
Ability to learn current in-house computer systems
Ability to work effectively as a team member and contribute positively towards the goals of the team and the organization
Maintain a calm demeanor while working in an atmosphere of conflicting demands

Duties And Responsibilities:
Essential (Not Modifiable)
Obtains and records vital signs, intakes and outputs, and other patient data and reports significant findings to licensed personnel
Assists patient with or provides hygiene, ADL, comfort and safety measures for the patients
Provides assistance with positioning, ambulating, and transfers of patients
Assists with simple respiratory therapy treatments for patients. Performs (bedside) EKG’s, and other specimen collection
Prepares patient for OR, diagnostic tests and transport, and assist licensed staff with simple procedures
Provides trouble shooting and set up of equipment and assists other team members with treatments and procedures
Applies splints and other orthopedic immobilizers
Brings patient into Emergency Department treatment area and prepares patients to be seen by physician per patient care guidelines. Assist physician with physical examination when requested
Prepares procedural trays utilizing sterile technique and assists physicians and nurses with procedures
Assist RN with receiving ambulance patients, i.e. placing patient on the monitor, transferring patient, assisting patient into hospital gown, and obtaining vital signs
Stays alert to potential changes in the condition of a patient and immediately reports any changes observed to licensed personnel
Responds to Code 2000 on assigned unit
Attends all mandatory classes, meetings and in-services per unit and hospital standards; for example,
