Lee Lab: https://www.cachannel.net Postdoctoral Fellow positions are for one year, and are renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward research goals. We are broadly interested in Ca2+ signaling mechanisms underlying the development, function, and repair of the nervous system. Our current areas of research include studies of voltage-gated Ca2+ channels in the retina with a focus on the development and function of photoreceptor synapses, as well as how dysregulation of Ca2+ channels cause inherited retinal disorders. We are also studying the roles of calmodulin-like Ca2+ sensors in somatosensory functions and axonal outgrowth in dorsal root ganglion neurons. A new direction of the lab is to utilize fluorescence techniques to study the biophysical properties of Ca2+ channels at the single molecule level. We utilize techniques including patch clamp electrophysiology, confocal and two-photon imaging, molecular biology and biochemistry, and behavioral assays. Purpose To provide research support in the lab of Dr. Amy Lee for the Department of Neuroscience. Responsibilities Designing and executing research experiments that may involve any of the following: animal tissue dissections, surgery, and histology; molecular biology; biochemistry; cell culture; optical imaging; various forms of microscopy; behavioral assays; electrophysiology Write manuscripts, grants, and other scientific documents Mentor other lab personnel and collaborate on projects Career development activities including participating in journal clubs, seminars, scientific conferences Required Qualifications PhD in neuroscience or related field received within the last three years Experience in immunohistochemistry, various forms of microscopy (e.g., confocal and electron microscopy) molecular biology, and/or biochemistry Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of retinal or somatosensory neurobiology and associated techniques First-author on at least one peer-reviewed publication Salary Range $60,782+ depending on qualifications Working Conditions May work around chemical fumes May work around standard office conditions May work around biohazards May work around chemicals Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Required Materials Resume/CV 3 work references with their contact information; at least one reference should be from a supervisor Letter of interest Important   for applicants who are NOT current university employees or contingent workers:  You will be prompted to submit your resume the first time you apply, then you will be provided an option to upload a new Resume for subsequent applications.
